LA: Inmate lawsuit alleges excessive heat at Angola

From the article: “Three death row inmates sued state agencies in Baton Rouge federal court Monday over heat indexes alleged to have reached 172 degrees last year and 195 degrees in 2011.”

LA: Violence inside OPP sends dozens to the hospital each month

LA: Orleans Parish Sheriff’s deputy who allegedly punched inmate in face is charged with battery and malfeasance

From the article: “An Orleans Parish Prison guard is facing criminal charges for allegedly punching a handcuffed inmate three times in the face on Christmas day.”

Gotta love this: the inmate cussed at the deputy, so what is the natural course of action, you ask?

“Deputy Mallery explained he felt the need to defend himself and he struck inmate Muse with a closed fist,” according to court records. “Deputy Mallery concluded by stating he did not realize inmate Muse was restrained with handcuffs at the time of the incident.”

LA: Inmate’s trial scheduled May 20 in prison killing

From the article: “Trial for the last of the five Angola inmates accused of killing a penitentiary security officer in 1999 has been set for the week of May 20.”

Stop me if I’m wrong, but 1999?  It takes 14 years to bring this guy to trial?  I guess the wheels of justice turn slowly in Louisiana…
