Inmate Labor Under Fire

In Nevada, legislators are again confronting the argument that inmate labor is stealing jobs from the private sector.

And in Kentucky, inmate labor apparently gives inmates access to cocaine.

Not a good day for inmate labor.

KY: ‘Crunching sound’: Gay prisoner sues after inmate bites off part of his nose

The inmate says that he was harassed for a week in the KY county jail before he was pinned to the wall and beaten.  The inmate aggressor then bit part of his nose off.  Another inmate found the piece of nose and doctors tried to attach it, but without success.  The inmate is now suing the jail.

Kentucky inmate on the run after overpowering jailer

A more successful escape than our confused friend from New Mexico.  This inmate complained of chest pains and was being transported to a medical facility.  Despite being reportedly handcuffed and shackled, he somehow managed to “jump” the deputy with a sharp object, took his shoes, put the deputy in the back of the van, drove some distance down the road, and then released the deputy.

Kentucky switching to 1 drug executions

“Kentucky will switch to a single drug to carry out the execution of condemned inmates under a new set of regulations filed Friday, becoming the latest state to drop a three-drug mixture for lethal injections.”
