Union official voices concern on prison staffing after assault

A correctional officer was assaulted Friday by an inmate at Anamosa State Penitentiary, prompting a complaint from the state’s largest public employees union, although a state official called the attack an isolated incident.

GO INSIDE–Iowa’s New “Escape-Proof” Maximum Security Prison

Hundreds of prisoners at Iowa’s oldest maximum security prison will soon make the final move of their lives.  Construction crews are slowly entering the final phases of a $130 million dollar new Iowa State Penitentiary (ISP) in Fort Madison.   For the last 173 years some of Iowa’s most dangers men have called the current ISP home.
