Justice: Prison Compassionate Release Programs Inconsistent

From the article: “The U.S. Bureau of Prisons lacks clear standards on when to grant compassionate release to inmates with terminal illnesses and limited life expectancies, the Justice Department’s inspector general said Wednesday.”

The poor management of the program “has likely resulted in potentially eligible inmates not being considered for release,”

Ex-NC inmate suing feds over penis amputation

From the article, the inmate “says delays in examining and testing a lesion on his penis went on for months. When it was finally found to be cancerous, most of Baker’s penis had to be amputated.”

KS: Feds remove female prisoners from state prison

From the article: “The action comes after the U.S. Department of Justice released a report in September concluding there was widespread sexual abuse of inmates at the Topeka prison. Since 2001, TCF has been the only state prison for women in Kansas. It houses an average of more than 500 women, ranging from work-release to maximum-security inmates.”

Prison officials state that they have had a contract for a number of years to house federal female inmates.
